1. Newblog2011: 07/20/11 Child molestation/harassment/The shelter/Brook Street School/Central Vermont Community Action Council/Project Head Start & Early Head Start
Yesterday morning, there were new job listings on the bulletin board at the shelter. There haven’t been any there for several weeks; someone who works there must have found them and printed them out.
One of them had the following on it:
“Seeking team oriented workers with commercial experience. All aspects from demolition to finish trim.”
The word “demolition” is underlined on the job listing that’s on the bulletin board; I wrote it here as it was written there.
The printed date at the bottom of the page is “July 18, 2011.”
On July 17, 2011, on my WordPress blog “ireallyprotest,” I wrote about a Masons’ poster for the “1st Annual Grand Master’s Fair” that I had seen in Barre. I questioned several things advertised for on the poster, including something called “DEMOLAY FOR BOYS.” I wrote:
“What is “DEMOLAY FOR BOYS?” Is that a combination of the words “demolition” and “lay”? For people who aren't familiar with the slang use of the term “lay,” it means to have sex with someone. It can be both a noun and a verb; a person can disrespectfully described as having been “laid” and can also be disrespectfully described as having been “a lay.””
I don’t think that the shelter should be encouraging child molestation.
There’s a school a few buildings away on the same street as the shelter. It’s called “The Brook Street School;” it’s on the corner. What I looked up online says that it’s a preschool for children ages 0-7.
Yesterday morning, after leaving the shelter, I walked past the school. Someone had propped a kids’ small, backyard swimming pool up against the inside of the fence around the playground. The pattern on the pool is made up of sea life; there are pictures of sea life all over it. When I walked back past the school yesterday on the way to the shelter, I saw the pool propped up against the wall of the school at the back of the playground, with another pool behind it.
I suppose it’s possible that someone who was using the playground with his or her child, or one of the middle-school-aged children or even teenagers that I often see on that playground put the pool there as a joke. However, I don’t think it’s the greatest thing that the pool is being used by the school at this time, anyway; I saw the same pool for sale recently, so it’s likely that the school bought it this summer.
The sign for Brook Street School that’s on the outside of the fence says:
“Central Vermont Community Action Council
Brook Street School
Head Start & Early Head Start
Learning Together Center
Family Literacy Center”
In addition to there being much corruption among state government agencies and charitable organizations in regard to the issue of child molestation by now, soon after I had first written on Weebly about Magnum ice cream, I saw that someone at the shelter had found a videotape from among the videotapes on the bookshelf above the TV and placed it in front of all of the other videotapes. The tape said “Magnum Force.”
Yesterday, when I got back to the shelter, there was a large, outdoor umbrella in the backyard. Its tag was toward the house, and said “Rio Beach.”
I got some scissors and cut the tag out. As I was cutting the tag out, I inadvertently put a small hole in the umbrella. It’s an umbrella that has seen better days; it already had holes in it, even at the top of it.
It seems to me that there continue to be attempts by people who work at the shelter to harass me and to encourage me to be harassed by other residents. Since I accidentally put the hole in the umbrella, I can see that being a source of much discussion and impetus for more placement of harassing things around the house by staff today; I also am wondering if it’s the sort of thing for which I could get questioned “Did you put that hole in the umbrella?”
The more poorly behaved and unfair the shelter staff are, the worse I get treated by residents there who are prone to be harassing. Also, with a school up the street that is exhibiting very little concern for the safety of its students, I REALLY DON’T think that the shelter ought to be encouraging child molestation. What if one of the residents takes his or her cue from the shelter and others who are encouraging it, the way many residents have taken their cues from the encouragement to harass me and other women?
