2. Newblog2011: 08/03/11 Problems at my job
I’ve been working at a hotel in Montpelier since last week. I did notice the stack of “Wet Floor” signs in the basement where I was interviewed, but since I was being interviewed for a housekeeping job, I didn’t worry about it too much. I notice that the signs haven’t moved, and there’s another small stack of them around the corner from where they are; I’m sure that they would be as accessible from a utility closet or from the utility corner as they are from where they are now.
Yesterday, I noticed that there was a letter addressed to someone in “Fisherville” on the front desk, propped up against the wall. I figured that if I saw it there again today, I would mention it, but that if it was gone by today, I wouldn’t; however, other issues are continuing and augmenting, so I’m mentioning the letter, even though I didn’t see it there today.
Every day that I have worked so far, a man has been coughing outside of the women’s locker room either while I’m changing in there at the end of the day or when I’m about to leave. A man who works there has to be watching when it’s the end of my shift and I go to the locker room; he then walks by the locked door of the locker room and coughs, or he’s watching from somewhere and gives a loud cough from wherever he’s watching from.
On my first day at the hotel, an employee who seems to be a maintenance guy put a sign that said “Wet Paint” on the outside of a room that was right next to a room that I was restoring to order. It would seem that perhaps he created a small, painting project for the room that he was in specifically so that he could put the “Wet Paint” sign near where I would be.
Today, he did another project near the kitchen; when I walked to the kitchen to complete an errand, I saw him standing by a “Wet Paint” sign on the back door to the restaurant, grinning . That was shortly before the end of my shift.
I walked out of the women’s locker room today to the sound of a loud, male, fake, harassing, 1/3-cough, 1/3-vomit, 1/3-sneeze sound.
I went upstairs to sign out at the front desk. There were two female employees there, one in uniform and the other in regular clothes. The one in regular clothes was doing something with a box of several, small boxes, all of which said “MINI WIRE PUZZLES” on them.
I’m not sure why the things that I’ve just described are happening at the hotel. I’m sure that the big harassers have known that I got hired there from the second that I was hired there.
No matter why the things that are happening are happening, the hotel has a sexual harassment policy in its employee handbook; I am now an employee of that hotel, and I shouldn’t be getting harassed by anyone who works or stays there.
Also; I have to have a job. I can’t not have a job. It’s not my decision what gets promoted from that hotel.
It’s difficult for me to understand why anyone who has the responsibility for that hotel is allowing the promotion of child molestation. For one thing, what about people who want to bring their children to Vermont? The only people who are going to want to stay at that hotel are the ones who either are sexually molesting their children already, who want to do so, or who continue to be in total denial about what's been going on over the past year.
