4. Newblog2011: 07/23/11 Cumberland Farms in Barre, VT
The Cumberland Farms up the street from the shelter has been undergoing reconstruction. Today I went into it for the first time since the entire store became accessible.
There's a sticker on the Chill Zone beverage machine. The sticker says:
"NEW!
Chill Soda Zone
Congratulations to

88 (I don't see the "cents" sign on the keyboard; there probably is one that I don't know how to use, but someone else is signed on here for 10:00 a.m. and I don't have time to figure it out. The price of 88 cents is written in red.)"
Above the Chilll Zone, there's another sign that says
"Chill Zone 79 (cents)"
The reconstruction of the interior of that Cumberland Farms has been going on for several weeks. There have been and still are signs out front for pizza and hot dogs.
There's a large, yellow, Wet Floor Caution cone just outside the front door, on the concrete where there is no wet floor.
There is another large, yellow, Wet Floor Caution cone directly in front of the entrance of the front door, a few feet in front of the customer when he or she walks in the door, where there is no wet floor. To its right is a cardboard display of "King-Size Candy."
There's another large Wet Floor Caution cone on the way to the Chill Zone, where there is no wet floor. It's green.
I'm sure that the staff plan to keep all of the cones where they are at all times, on completely dry floor where there is no need for them, where they are in the way and meant as nothing more than harassment.
I'm sure there were other signs and issues I could have made note of this morning, but I needed to leave before I said more to the cashier behind the register than this:
"I see you here with all of these Wet Floor signs, and I don't see you doing anything for anyone. I work really hard on these issues, and they're important issues."
I don't know if that was a good thing to say or not; it's how I feel about a lot of the people who think that they have the right to criticize me and to make ugly insinuations about me.
