1. Newblog2011: Gannett in Vermont
Here’s what the front page of the Gannett-owned Times Argus looked like today, July 22, 2011:
On the front page:
The first article is entitled:
“Love it or hate it, it’s HOT”
By Keith Vance
The title is below a picture of young girls under a water hose. The caption says:
“(first name of young girl), 12, of Montpelier, right, and (second name of young girl), 11, of Berlin, cool off, with other Rosie’s Girls campers, under a water hose at Spaulding High School on Thursday as temperatures and humidity levels climbed to uncomfortable levels. For additional photos of Rosie’s Girls camp, see Saturday’s Times Argus.”
I added the bold print in the last quote of the previous sentence from the Times Argus article.
I don’t know what happened last night with all the celebrities and everyone else who’s been part of endorsing child molestation, but it is obvious that at the time that the Times Argus published today’s newspaper, it was planning to make tomorrow’s newspaper full of more suggestive pictures of children.
Next article on the front page:
“Vermont’s Economy:

Next article:

That’s next to an ostensibly unrelated picture that has a title that says:
“COOL BUSINESS”
The title is above a picture of two young girls, both in shorts. The girl in the front of the picture is pouring lemonade into a cup. The picture is taken so as to expose as much of her bare legs as possible, almost up to her crotch.
Here’s what the caption for the picture says:
“(name of first girl, whose last name is “Bushey”), 11, right, pours a cup of lemonade while selling goodies at a stand in Montpelier with her friends (name of another girl, whom the newspaper says isn’t shown), and (name of other girl in picture), 10, on Thursday. The girls are raising money for a hoped-for trip to Harry Potter World in Florida next year.
To the right of that picture, there’s another supposedly unrelated article, that says:
“Barre dig

Night work
Planned to begin in August”
By David Delcore
Staff Writer
The Barre Dig is about the reconstruction of Barre; not from the flood, because it was being planned before that very short storm of several weeks ago. Here’s some information from the WeDigBarre website for the game, “Barre’s Treasure Dig,” which was started among some businesses who wanted to accuse me of being a moneygrubber who was going after a particular celebrity:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: This week sees the beginning of the long awaited Barre City “Big Dig”. As you know, Luck Brothers Inc. of Plattsburgh NY was awarded the contract after a letting of 4 contractors from VT, NH and NY.
Work this week begins at the intersection of Rtes. 62 and 302 (the hospital beltline and North Main Street). First up is the beginning of clearing and grubbing and storm sewer installation parallel to Rte. 62 off of the westbound shoulder. The area of construction is within 100 yards of the N. Main Street intersection. Two way traffic will be maintained in single lanes under the direction of flaggers. Hours of operation will be from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM and work in the area will last through approximately July 22. Please expect minor delays during work hours. For the safety of our workers, please obey all signs and flaggers’ directions and we ask you to please be courteous and “Barre” with us. Check back often for updates and official information about progress on the reconstruction, and for details regarding any closures and detours. This web site is the ONLY place where you can get up to date info 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! Barre’s Treasure Dig Is On NOW!: Want to get in on $300 in gift certificates awarded every week between June 27th and November 19, 2011? Puzzle gameboards are available FREE from the businesses listed below, and are available now! REMEMBER: There is no purchase necessary to win! Each puzzle piece has two parts, the puzzle piece and the sign-up registration form. The puzzle pieces are perforated for easy separation. It’s easy to play! How about a peek at the future?

July 22, 2011
I know that not all of the businesses listed in the middle of that paragraph are supportive of child molestation, even if, at the time that the website for The Barre Treasure Dig started, they were thinking: "Let's call Lena a money-grubbing celebrity chaser because we've never seen anything she's written except for her constant protests and her attempts to sort out her life after colliding online with various celebrities over the past and a half. We have no idea that she's actually very talented and that she truly hates writing about the degradation of women that we think is hilarious, and hates writing about all of the issues because she finds them immeasurably horrible and depressing. We think that everything that she's said about having written scripts for TV shows and about having written other things that got "borrowed" without her permission is a total lie. Whatever it is that happened, she can't actually be that talented of a writer, because otherwise she'd have a writing job in the entertainment industry and nobody would hate her the way that they do. It must be that she's an ok writer, but that really, she was pretty enough a couple of years ago to get the attention of some celebrities and she used that to screw with everyone in that industry because she's not that great of a writer and nobody really wanted to hire her. That has to be what's going on."
The last line in the paragrah that I transposed from the WeDigBarre website was something that was written by the person who created the website. There is no reason to believe that all of the businesses who initially supported the game were or are interested in supporting child molestation.

From the Burlington Free Press, I've just described one thing from the front page, and the rest of it was the front page of the Savorvore section to which that first title on the front page of the whole newspaper directed the reader.
Here's more from the front page of the Burlington Free Press from July 22, 2011:
"VA STANDOFF ENDS
Armed man arrested after 5-hour standoff at White River veteran's hospital"
"'Reeling from the shock
Relative tunned by killing of Burlington man"
That article begins:
"(The man) attended a local high school, worked on the Burlington lakefront for several summers and was known for his Christmas decorations. Family of the 54-year-old Burlington man said they were in shock Thursday after city police announced (he) was the victim of a homicide. His body was found late Tuesday near the Winooski River. Before plummeting nearly 50 feet off a railraod bridge, (he) 'sustained lethal injuries in a violent altercation,' Burlington police said Thursday."
To the right of that article:
(The number is large and in yellow, the rest of the top caption is in black print)
"97! Go jump in the lake is good advice as Burlington seeks relief from record high. But it's not the heat, it's the heat index."
Then there's a picture of a guy in green shorts, about to jump into the lake. The caption says:
"Swimmers cool off by jumping into Lake Champlain at Oakledge Park in Burlington on Thursday."
The print gets large again and says:
"Relief in sight---after today,"
There's a quote that says:
"I do not complain about the heat. You know why? It doesn't last long."
The quote is reported as being by the owner of a hot dog stand.
Below that quote it says:
"How to cool your cows 4A"
"Hot nights add to suffering, 8A"
Here's an excerpt from the article:
"As the temperature peaked, (the hot dog stand owner) grilled hot dogs from inside his stand"
Next to all of that, there is a picture of two young children in a pool. There are water droplets going across the boy's face and chest; one of the droplets is directly in front of his open mouth. The caption gives the last name of the children as "Austin" and says:
"(boy's name) Austin, 4, shakes off water as his sister (girl's name) Austin, 6, chills at St. Albans City pool."
The larger title below the caption says:
"Hang in there, it'll get cooler....."
Then there's a weather report
Last on the page, it says:
"Pirate videos" Chinese fake whole store
Faux Apple outlets rotten to the core."
by Louise Watt
The Associated Press
There's a picture that goes with that article. It shows a store that says in the background: "iPhone4" and "Mac" with a caption that says:
"A man walks past windows of a shop masquerading as an Apple store in downtown Kunming in southwest China's Yunnan province Thursday."
