--IT'S INTERESTING HOW PLANNED PARENTHOOD OF NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND HAS JUST LOST A TON OF FEDERAL AND STATE FUNDING, AND YET THE FEDERAL AND STATE FUNDING FOR "FLOOD DAMAGE" IS STILL BEING HANDED OUT AS IF MONEY GREW ON TREES.
Here's some of what's on the front page of the Gannett owned and published Barre Montpelier Times Argus today, Wednesday, July 13, 2011:
The first title on the page says:
--(In small print) The CVPS-GMP Merger
__(In large print) AARP: Bailout payback awaits (by Peter Hirschfeld, of the Vermont Press Bureau)
The first paragraph of that article says:
"Montpelier--A powerful advocate for Vermont ratepayers says a $20 million hurdle stands in the way of a blockbuster deal between the state's two largest electrical utiliities."
The next thing on the page is a picture of some people in orange and yllow vests standing around some "Caution", orange and white striped barriers above what the caption below the picture describes as a "flood-damaged bridge."
The large caption above the picture says:
"FEMA ASSESSMENT UNDER WAY"
The caption below the picture says:
"State and FEMA officials inspect the flood-damaged bridge linking Harrington Avenue with Brook Street in Barre on Tuesday. The inspection was part of a tour and evaluation by state and FEMA officials of flood-damaged public infrastructure in Washington County that will inform decisions about public assistance to make repairs."
FEMA, of course, is the "Federal Emergency Management Agency". The first thing listed under its official search result on Google is "Flood Maps, Insurance, and Information". It mentions Flood Maps again in that same section, before you even get to the website. I've put that search result here; it's in separate columns in its original form and it looks different here but it's the same wording:

Next on the front page of the July 13, 2011 Times Argus, below the picture with its captions about FEMA, is an article entitled:
--(In small print) BARRE
--(In large print) School wants out from under "No Child"
The title "School wants out from under "No Child" is actually above 2 articles by the same person, David Delcore. The first article begins:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Barre: The board responsible for running a school that has chronically failed to make adequate yearly progress has signed on to a national campaign calling for relief from the No Child Left Behind Act.
Though the decision lacked the passion of a spirited cupcakes-versus-carrotsticks debate that accompanied their review of a revised nutrition policy, Barre school commissioners agreed Monday that it is time to stick a fork in No Child Left Behind."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The other article below the title of "School wants out from under 'No Child'" has its own, smaller title that says:
"Cupcakes versus carrots: Sweets policy fraught with controversy"
On the left side of the page, next to the two articles, there is the small column that the Times Argus often puts there entitled "Say What?" It's a story about something reported by "The Beaver County Times."
Below the article about schools, there is an article entitled:
Lobbying by way of charity: Doing well by doing good
That's by Larry Margasak, of the Associated Press.
Next to that article, there's a picture of children in the water. There are three boys and a girl, tossing a ball around. Their ages are listed as 11, 9, 6 and 9, in that order. The caption above the picture says:
BEACH FOREVER
