--Vocational Rehabilitation
This past Friday, I went for an appointment at what's called "Voc Rehab." It's in the same government building as the Department of Labor. It's a place that helps people who have disabilities find work, so I didn't think I would qualify (and didn't), but I checked it out.
The person I was to meet got me from the waiting room. As we walked into the hallway where the offices of the staff are, I saw that the bulletin board had a newspaper article on it that was definitely code for support for stoning.
I "tsked" disapprovingly, and she said "Is something wrong?" AS IF SHE DIDN'T KNOW!
She kept asking me that all the way to her office; then she said "You seem upset."
It's bad enough when people who aren't in the business of trying to help people who have various physical and mental disabilities, including people who are willing to be diagnosed with a mental illness, do things that they know are going to upset people and then pretend not to know what's going on; for someone whose job it is to be honest with people who are at even more of a disadvantage than most people who are out of work and whose version of reality is constantly under suspicion even under the bad, normal circumstances through which all people who have been diagnosed with mental illnesses have to navigate is DISGUSTING.
The interview took no time; we sat down in her office, I told her she didn't need to concern herself with my feelings, I told her I didn't have a disability, thanked her for the appointment, and left.
I need to repeat affirmations such as "I WON'T become a misanthrope" every day, all the time, or I'll be in danger of becoming one because of situations such as my appointment at Voc Rehab.
--Descriptions of child abuse and its effects
Something I've been wanting to do for a while is to put descriptions of real child abuse, including child molestation, on my blog so that the people who still think it's a joke and are contributing to the problem might get a more accurate perception of what they're contributing to.
I've been hesitant to do that because even though people who were abused and wrote books about it, self-published on the Web or who have researched child abuse and published the results of their studies on the subject might have wanted to get the stories out, they might not want AS much publicity as they would get as individuals if I took that information without asking them and put it on my blog or directed readers to it.
I wish that the people who have been promoting pedophilia and who do it thinking that I've been excessively hysterical about they're doing so would take time, even if it's just a few hours, to educate themselves about what child abuse and molestation really are and about the effects that those crimes have on children.
It couldn't be less funny. Few crimes are less funny.
