3. Newblog2011: 10/06/11 The Boston Public Library/Child Molestation/Conglomerate takes advantage of nice people
I only have time to write the notes I first took by hand when I got here.
In front of the BPL side entrance, nearest computers--
--4 bricks wrapped in red wrapping paper, with a bunch of helium balloons tied to each brick.
--a sign in the front lobby, saying that there will be videotaping happening in the library today and that if you don't want to be photograped or videotaped, tell the library staff
--I went immediately to the Circulation desk, to the side of the lobby. I said to the white, male staffperson behind the desk "I don't want to be videotaped or photograped." He shrugged, grinined, and rubbed his hand across his nose while staring into my eyes.
--I went back out into the lobby and told the black, male staffperson "I don't want to be videotaped or photographed." He said "What?" The next thing I knew, he had his hand over his nose.
--I slightly lost my temper, said "You got to be f---ing kidding me, " and started to walk toward the center of the lobby. My reaction got a reaction from the guard. He said "EXCUSE ME!" and followed me to the Information desk, where I told the female staffperson what had happened. She looked at me in silence, as if she had no idea what to say to me.
The guard took out his walkie-talkie. I left the room to find someone to help me.
Evenutally I talked to the person who is managing the library today, a senior manager named Susan Glover. I told her what had happened.
She said: "I don't know why you were treated that way. An e-mail was sent about the videotaping to the library staff. Sometimes the lower level clerks don't get our e-mails."
It's as if she expected me to forget that there is a large sign that says "If you don't want to be videotaped, tell staff" in the lobby, right next to the room that has the Circulation desk. There's not even a door between that room and the lobby.
She said "They're filming for a promotion video today. They should be away from the room that has the computers by 11:00 a.m., and it should be smooth sailing for you after that."
I said "What? Did you just say 'smooth sailing'?"
She said she'd remind staff about the notice and, when I asked her "Are you going to talk to security?" she said "Yes."
Today, in the Rabb Lecture Hall, the Jumpstart Read For The Record event happened. There is a bunch of green, red and orange balloons in front of either entrance to the hall.
There's a sign on the ledge between the entrances that says:
"Jumpstart
read
for the record
in partnership with
Pearson
Foundation."
------------------------------------------------------------------
By the right entrance, there's a large sign with a purple background. At the top of it is a graphic that shows a stack of 3 orange books, with the words "We" "GIVE" "BOOKS" written, one word to a book. Next to the stack of books is a picture of a penguin.
It goes on to say:
READ
A BOOK
GIVE
A BOOK
PEARSON
FOUNDATION
www.wegivebooks.org"
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The words "PEARSON FOUNDATION" are on a blue background.
I have said before that I personally don't attribute any code significance to the color blue, but it does seem to have been getting used by people both against and for gay rights as a symbol of gay rights.
I have no connection to the Pearson Foundation, and neither does the person whom I've mentioned online before in regard to this issue, a very nice, black woman who is a former employer of mine, and who graciously said a few months ago that she would give me a reference.
She is another person who couldn't possibly be a child molester or in favor of child molestation, whom the conglomerate has tried to implicate and take advantage of.
She is ALSO not gay.
