1. Newblog2011: 09/09/11 Privacy Violations: Boston Harbor Cruises and The Official Trolley Tours of the Boston Red Sox
Here’s part of an e-mail that I sent to myself as a note on August 17, 2011:

The “T” in Boston
In addition to orange “Caution” road cones where they don’t need to be, there are several posters that I’ve seen in the State Street T-station that I didn’t like. One of them says:
“WE BLAST THE MUSIC TO DROWN OUT THE SCREAMS.
Boston Harbor Cruises
877 SEE WHALE”
(The picture on the poster is of a boat on the water with spray all around it.)
There’s a poster for the New England Aquarium’s “New Shark and Ray Touch Tank.” I’ve seen that around Boston, too. I’ve said before that the references that are meant to be positive aren’t any less degrading than the ones that are meant to be negative, and that I wish that people would just stop talking about it. There’s no need to be that specific all the time; it’s degrading, and it’s gross.

“We blast the music to drown out the screams”
Now it’s on the side of a trolley, one of the Official Trolley tours of the Boston Red Sox.

The Boston Harbor Cruises ad that said “We blast the music to drown out the screams” was something I first saw in a T-station. I kept a note about it in my e-mail, and after that, I saw that the same ad had been placed on the side of one of the orange trolleys that do tours of Boston and that say on the side that they are the Official Trolley Tours of the Boston Red Sox.
Since I wrote the August 30, 2011 e-mail note to myself about the ad for Boston Harbor Cruises, Boston Harbor Cruises have put a new ad (no code intended, I don't want to say that again--"New" is a word that it's very difficult to avoid if what you're saying is that something is new) on the side of some of their trolleys. The new ad for Boston Harbor Cruises says:
“TONS OF FUN
37, TO BE EXACT”
That caption is next to a picture of a whale in the water.
I probably don’t need to remind anyone that I’m 37.
I guess I'm wondering how much longer these violations of my privacy and of my life are going to continue.
