7. Newblog2011: 07/21/11 No need for self-congratulation by the big harassers and others like them
Corrupt ends are easy to achieve in a place the size of Vermont.
Barre is a small town. There doesn’t seem to be a sizeable group of educated professionals here. There are a few lawyers’ offices, with tiny signs that you could walk by and not notice between the storefronts of the small businesses and outposts of corporations that line Main Street. I have yet to see a sign for a private doctor’s office. There are a couple of banks. There seem to be two military recruiting centers, within a few minutes’ walk of each other. There’s a Wells Fargo, a financial services company for which I found the following information online regarding some of its association with Gannett news service, the owner and publisher of newspapers such as The Times Argus and The Burlington Free Press:

As I’ve said, there’s not even a supermarket or full-size grocery store in downtown Barre.
There are some small business owners here who seem as interested in child molestation as in sexual harassment; I would still say that even among the small businesses and the outposts of corporations here, such as the gas stations, the individuals who show as much interest in molesting children as in degrading women don’t approach anything like the majority.
However, the government is corrupt at all levels, local and state. Also, Barre is very close to Montpelier, where all the corruption is being encouraged daily by the state and federal office buildings. Since the community services rely on the government also, and are also corrupt, everything that’s happened has had a large and bad impact.
The people who are going to suffer are all of the people who already don’t have any say in Barre, Montpelier, and in the rest of Vermont. They’re the ones who don’t own businesses, large or small. Many of them are probably on welfare. Many of them probably have poorly paid jobs in places where they already are abused and may also be abusive; for women in those jobs, the political and business push to degrade women has probably been catastrophic. Even if the degradation of women was something that some of those women initially participated in and enjoyed as a way picking on other people, I don’t imagine that they have much enjoyed having their bosses or more powerful coworkers treat them that way. It's a very wearing way to get through the day.
No matter what, poor people are going to be the ones to suffer the most ill effects from all of these unworthy campaigns. Rich and upper middle class people, for example, are the only people who will be able to afford to send their children to private schools where those children might have a chance of not being molested by their teachers and degraded and bullied by other students. However, there have to be a lot of rich and upper middle class people who don’t want to send their young teenagers away to private schools; why should they have to, just to avoid what the public schools are going to be like?
Even in public schools, while the dangers will still be very bad, the children of rich and upper middle class parents are the least likely to be the victims of sexual abuse by teachers, coaches and administrators and probably the least likely to be the victims of bullying and sexual abuse by other students, also, in all grades.
Middle class people will be agonized and will probably choose either not to have children or to have fewer children than they otherwise would. Not being able to afford private school, and having no guarantee that their children on financial aid could avoid being sexually abused at private school anyway, some families might be able to have a parent stay home to do homeschooling. However, most parents don’t want to homeschool their children; they want public schools to be safe and healthy places that provide their children with educations, and they have the right to have that.
Lower middle class people and people at and below the poverty level will have to send their children to the corrupted public schools. It’s illegal to keep your child out of school.
