3. Newblog2011: 08/06/11 Iran
Whenever I think of saying that the child molestation issue is the worst issue of the ones that I've spent the most time writing about, I think of Iran. What I think first is “How can anyone who considers him or herself a civilized person in this day and age advocate for stoning?”
Hanging isn't any better. Executing or continuing to imprison and torture those people; it's all terrible.
I also have always thought that the way that the Iranian issue was taken up by a faction each of the entertainment and advertising industry and promoted as a fad was ghoulish. The government officials, corporations and media entities who have encouraged the fad have been horrible. I would say that at least half of the people in the entertainment industry alone who have advocated for the continued imprisonment, torture and executions of the prisoners in Iran have no genuine knowledge about or interest in political or religious issues at all.
It seems to me that those prisoners, and others like them, are a route by which the Iranian government tries to terrorize the moderates in its population, and to appease the extremists. It is a way for the government to maintain totalitarian control over its population. It's bad in so many ways that I don't think that I have the expertise to differentiate and explain all the ways in which it's bad.
