1. Newblog2011: 08/20/11 The New York Times Newspaper
There’s more for me to write about what was on the front page of the August 17, 2011 New York Times newspaper.
--The article blurb that said:
“SPORTS WEDNESDAY B11-B15
Phillies’ Missing Piece
The recently acquired Hunter Pence adds offensive punch to the team with the best record in baseball.
Page B11”
------------
My father was born in Philadelphia. That more or less made my family’s house a Philadelphia sports team house for all of my life. It’s something that I mentioned a few times a couple of years ago when I first started to write online.
--------------
--The article entitled “Panama Adding a Wider Shortcut for Shipping,” written by Henry Fountain, whose location is given as “COCOLI, Panama,” and which begins in the following way:
-------------------------------------
“COCOLI, Panama—For now, the future of global shipping is little more than a hole in the ground here, just a short distance from the Pacific Ocean.
Ah, but what a hole it is.
About a mile long, several hundred feet wide and more than 100 feet deep, the excavation is an initial step in the building of a larger set of locks for the Panama Canal that should double the amount of goods that can pass through it each year.”
---------------------------------------------
Two years ago, when I realized that fame might be on its way for me, I asked a friend of mine please to stop using our real names and to use e-mail accounts with fake names when communicating with each other so as to protect our privacy. At the time, I thought it was likely that my e-mail accounts would eventually be hacked, if they hadn’t been already, and I hoped that using an e-mail account with a fake name could protect my privacy and the privacy of my friend. I finally realized that I couldn’t have any privacy online, no matter what I do.
My friend chose “Coco” for the first part of her fake, online name. We communicated with our fake-name e-mail accounts for several months before I saw the name “COCO” appearing on White House blog posts, in the media, on the internet, and in every other venue through which I have been harassed and threatened.
She lives in the Chicago area, where President Obama’s former White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, is now mayor.
