2. Newblog2011: 10/10/11 Mass. Ave. and Newbury Street
I only have a few minutes.
Since I last wrote about Newbury Street, where the day shelter called the Women's Lunch Place is:
--Although the street isn't being blocked by construction vehicles, the entire length of the street from Gloucester to Fairfield has exposed, industrial, metal pipe on the edge of the sidewalk next to the road, on each side. There are Caution cones and Caution poles all along each side of the road, too, next to the pipes. Some of the cones and poles have been tied to the pipes. At the end of that section of road there is a small market called De Luca's. On the other side are Ciao Bella and Daisy Buchanan's. Those pipes were being put there or pulled out of the road and exposed there on the day that I talked about Newbury Street the other day.
--The pieces of road that had been ripped up along Newbury Street seem to have been hastily and partially repaired. I saw cars parked on and over the repairs, which were not completely filled in by having been re-tarred. The fact that the repair wasn't complete is going to be a problem for that street, especially in the winter. Over time, that street will have even more problems because of it.
--Exeter Street, another street that goes across Newbury Street, has been partially blocked off, with 2 cranes.
--As I walked along Newbury Street, a police truck, which I've never seen before, drove past me. The back of the truck was filled with blue fences that said "Boston Police" on them. A couple of those fences had already been placed on one of the corners of Newbury Street and one of its cross streets.
--Whatever was going on in front of Victoria's Secret the other day seems to be done; no more Caution tape, and cars were parked in front of it. However, as I walked by on the other side of the street from there, there was a man with a broom and dustpan sweeping in front of Ugg.
--There are 2, blue police fences on the corner of Newbury Street where the Church that has the Women's Lunch Place in the basement is.
On my way from Cambridge to Boston, I saw that there were 6 Caution cones on the last corner before the Mass. Ave. bridge.
There are Caution cones all the way in the middle of the bridge, from Cambridge to Boston. I think that there's a race today; we'll see if the Caution cones get removed after it.
Someone has painted "Harry Potter" in green on the same side of the sidewalk of the bridge that I wrote about on Weebly, October 7, 2011, which described the length of the Mass. Ave. bridge as "364.4 Smoots" with a plus or minus sign before the words "1 ear."
