In addition to the fact that adultery isn’t considered a crime in the United States, is there any conclusive proof that Ms. Ashtiani committed adultery? Is there video, are there pictures, was she pregnant by someone other than her husband at any time?
In the United States, there’s something called “Innocent until proven guilty.” It’s a very important part of our legal system.
Torturing someone until he or she says that he or she is guilty isn’t supposed to happen in the United States.
Ms. Ashtiani is facing a death penalty; in the United States, you are supposed to have to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that someone is guilty of a crime that deserves the death penalty before the alleged is given that sentence.
