6. Newblog2011: 08/15/11
During the first week that I was in Boston, I saw a public bus that had a sign on the side showing a man in a red apron with a smiling woman and child in the background. The caption said “It’s A Family Affair.”
On the way to the library this afternoon, I saw a man wearing a Mickey Mouse sweatshirt and walking with a boy who might have been his son.
Today I saw another trolley that proclaimed itself part of the official trolley tours of the Boston Red Sox, and that had an ad on the side for “KINGS.”
On 08/12/11, the Gallery at Copley Place, at the corner of Dartmouth and Huntington Streets, had some of the following signs in the windows:
--Turner Fisheries
--TC CHARTON: Asian Fit Eyewear
--Starbucks
--Sushi—it says “SUSHI,” with a red circle encompassing a black square in front of the “S”.
In front of the windows of the building that had those signs when I first took notes about this, there was and is a large sign that has two sides. One side says:
“BOSTON PARTNERS
IN EDUCATION”
(The words “Partners” and “Education” share one, enlarged, red letter “A.”)
“617-451-6145
www.bostonpartners.org
(That’s all above the picture. The picture is of a young, black boy eagerly raising his hand. In the picture, above the boy, it says):
“Remember when volunteering was exciting and fun?
(Below the child, it says):
“It still is. Volunteer with Boston Partners in Education and make a difference in a child’s life. Take some time to tutor and mentor students in the Boston Public Schools and help them develop the skills, self-confidence and motivation to achieve their full potential.
To learn more about our volunteer opportunities, please call 617-451-6145 or visit
www.bostonpartners.org”
On the other side of the sign, it says:
“@Summer Boston
Your address for fun, sun and adventure in Boston.
A full listing of special events for everyone!
Visit us at cityofboston.gov/summer or follow us on Twitter @ summerboston”
(The picture is a drawing that shows a Boston skyline with the harbor and boats. Then, at the bottom, in the water, it says):
“Thomas M. Menino
Mayor, City of Boston”
